Value4Nano: the project which will define the future of European nanotechnology

On June 2010, the European Technology Integrating and Innovation Platform NANOfutures, whose Steering Committee PRODINTEC belongs, was officially launched in Gijon (Spain)

Since its beginning, many activities had been launched in order to achieve this challenge. The last of them is VALUE4NANO project: "Industrial valorization of strategic value chains for nano-enabled products", which started on September 2013 and will finish on September 2015.

VALUE4NANO aims at developing an Implementation Roadmap of four Value Chains and their target products:

- Nano and micro printing for industrial manufacturing
- Nano-enabled, depollutant and self-cleaning surfaces
- Manufacturing of powers made of functional alloys, ceramics and intermetallics
- Lightweight multifunctional materials and composites for transportation

The Roadmap will include business modeling and planning for a set of pilot lines and it will involve strategic industry and other stakeholders.

Its main objective is overcome all barriers to the commercialization of nanotechnology by promoting effective collaboration between industry, SMEs, NGOs, financial institutions, research institutions, universities and civil society.

As part of the VALUE4NANO project, a survey about the value chains is ongoing. Collected information will be the starting point of the Implementation Roadmap and will be used to deliver recommendations to the European Commission for future program topics and actions in nanotechnology under Horizon 2020.
